Skydive Arizona is a big drop zone. No - a GINORMOUS drop zone with a lot of people from visiting to local jumpers, to staff, pilots, instructors, ground crew, maintenance, manifest to teams, event organizers and load organizers!!! The Featured Friday series is aimed at getting to know the people that make Skydive Arizona work and rock

Today, meet one of the many people behind the scenes that helps keeps jumpers in the sky. Meet a packer who loves to wing suit - Andrew Velasquez!

What/Who inspired you to make your first jump?
I kinda discovered jumping on my own. My brothers pushed me to follow it more seriously though.

What’s your favorite discipline & why?
My favorite discipline is wing suiting because to me it feels like the closest thing to flying.

Where did you come from before Skydive Arizona and what made you choose to come here?
I came from Anchorage, Alaska. I chose SDAZ because I looked for the best DZ and SDAZ kept popping up so I had to check it out.

How did you become a professional packer?
Professional is a strong word for what I do! haha I spent time on the DZ everyday and became friends with all the packers eventually they allowed me into their pack.

How fast can you pack a parachute?
I can pack in about 5min depending on the rig.

What’s the most number of pack jobs you’ve done in a day?
I've done 55 in one day. It ain't much but its a start.
