The first ever Rookie Round Up took place at Skydive Arizona on April 20th and 21st. Over 60 rookie skydivers from 18 states and four countries came out to jump together and take advantage of the event's free coaching.

The event kicked off with a mini tunnel camp Friday evening with free coaching provided by SkyVenture Arizona's instructors. Twenty-four skydivers were able to participate and many of them were flying in the wind tunnel for the first time.

Saturday morning started off with a quick safety briefing. Arizona Airspeed and Arizona Arsenal then held seminars to cover the basic body positions for belly jumpers and free flyers. The rookies spent the rest of the day jumping with coaches from Arizona Airspeed, Arizona Arsenal, and the Arizona Training Center and receiving landing advice from AXIS Flight School. In total, 23 Arizona based coaches donated their time and knowledge for the event. The jumping went till sunset on Saturday, and the day finished off with a BBQ at the Bent Prop Saloon and Cookery. This gave the coaches and the jumpers a chance to talk about the day and get to know each other better. There were also prizes raffled off by the event's vendors including a Flight 1 Canopy Course from Performance Designs and a discount coupon for new gear from UPT Vector. Aerodyne and Vertical Suits also came out to support the event.

Sunday morning began with a very informative canopy control seminar from AXIS Flight School. The rest of the day was packed full of more coach jumps, and AXIS continued filming landings and offering canopy related advice. Later in the afternoon many of the event's participants were able to jump out of Skydive Arizona's DC3 for the first time. Jumping continued to sunset when everyone reluctantly began packing for trips back home. A great weekend all around. Thanks to everyone who participated and made this event possible.
