How Many Skydives Can Be Done in One Day

The history of skydiving dates to the late 1700s when French balloonist André-Jacques Garnerin, who invented the frameless parachute, completed the first-ever successful skydive over Paris from about 2,000 feet up.

Since then, the popularity of skydiving has grown throughout the world. In the United States, licensed skydivers take part in about 3.3 million skydives annually.

Many people opt to go skydiving just once to check it off their bucket lists. But you might be surprised to hear that if you can get the logistics right — you can do hundreds.

To Start, How Many Skydives Can Be Done in One Day?

If you’re new to the sport or a first-time jumper, you might be surprised to hear that skydivers are jumping a lot.

Our tandem skydive instructors can skydive up to 5-6 times each day with first-timers. As a sport jumper or competitive team, you can pay parachute packers to help you turn loads quicker — and get in 10-12 jumps a day at a well lubricated operation like Skydive Arizona.

If you’re working in the industry, it’s not uncommon to do 600 or even 1,000 jumps a year!

Most first-time skydivers only jump out of a plane once before heading home. But honestly, how many skydives can someone really do?

Who Holds the Record for Most Skydives in One Day?

Are you sitting there scratching your head and trying to figure out how anyone can skydive ten or more times in one day? This next bit of information might blow your mind.

Back in 2006, W.L. “Jay” Stokes wanted to celebrate his 50th birthday with a bang. So Stokes,a who had already claimed several Guinness World Records by skydiving hundreds of times in a single day, once again asked himself, “How many skydives can be done in one day?” He proceeded to break his own records by skydiving an incredible 640 times in a 24-hour period.

Stokes completed this amazing feat at the Greensburg Municipal Airport in Indiana. The accomplishment, plus all Stokes’ other earth-shattering skydiving achievements, helped cement his place in the International Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame.

We also want to give some well-deserved shine to the Teenage Cancer Trust in Hibaldstow, UK, which earned the Guinness World Record for most tandem jumps in 24 hours. It set the record at Skydive Hibaldstow in 2015 by recording 403 tandem jumps in just under 12 hours in memory of Stephen Sutton. He started his Stephen’s Story blog to help raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and hoped to help break this record himself before succumbing to cancer in 2014.

Who Has Recorded the Most Lifetime Skydives?

By the time Don Kellner died in 2021, he was setting a new record every time he went skydiving. Back in 1991, he earned his first Guinness World Record for achieving the most lifetime skydives with 15,000 total — and he kept adding to it over the next 30 years while proving you’re never too old to skydive.

He made the jump for the last time on May 1, 2021, after taking the final eight jumps of his life at Above the Poconos Skydivers in Pennsylvania, which he owned with his wife. It left him with 46,355 skydives overall, including 10,000 tandem jumps with people skydiving for the first time. Kellner received a posthumous award from the United States Parachute Association for his record-setting performances.

What Record Was Recently Set on World Skydiving Day?

Even though people have been skydiving for centuries now, the first annual World Skydiving Day was just held on July 13, 2024. The plan is to continue to hold World Skydiving Day on the second Saturday of every July.

To help put World Skydiving Day on the map, the skydiving organizations that helped create it, including the USPA, arranged for skydivers from all across the globe to work together to answer the question, “How many skydives can be done in one day?”

Jumpers at Skydive Arizona and around the world set a record by recording 30,351 skydives in one day.
