Arizona’s skydiving legacy runs deep, and few names represent it better than Craig Girard. An Arizona native, world champion, mentor, and lifelong ambassador for the sport, Craig has inspired generations to reach higher and fly with purpose.
Craig made his first jump in 1981 and quickly rose through the ranks of the U.S. Army Golden Knights, helping the team win multiple World Championships in 8-way formation skydiving. After leaving the Army, he joined Arizona Airspeed, based here at Skydive Arizona in Eloy, where his leadership and precision helped build one of the most successful formation teams in history.
Across his extraordinary career, Craig has earned eight World Championships, 19 U.S. National titles, and contributed to world-record achievements including the 300-, 357-, and 400-way formations. Beyond medals, his impact has been felt worldwide through his decades as a coach and mentor, shaping the next generation of skydivers with the same calm focus and relentless pursuit of excellence that defined his own jumps.
Now, Craig has been nominated for the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame, and our community has the chance to help him take his rightful place among Arizona’s greatest athletes.
