8-way Speed Comp!!! GREAT SUCCESS
Head Down Formation "Fruitcake" Photo by Craig Amrine
Everyone involved in last weekend’s 8way speed comp would agree that it was a great success!
There were two dive pools, one for head down teams and one for belly teams. The dive pools were designed to be as similar as possible so the head down teams could compete with the belly flyers. At the end of the five round competition, head down team “Mimosa” proved to be .9th of a second faster than the belly flyers!

There were two belly teams (Gary’s Kids & Team 420) and one head down team (Mimosa) that entered the competition. The attendance was a little smaller than expected, but this didn’t slow down the fun. Teams were focused on building their first point as quickly as possible. Once accomplished they moved straight to goofing off! Nationally rated judge Anoshka Gasson was responsible for judging the speed by which each team built their first point the fastest. In addition she also judged the remainder of the competition on originality and creativity. The team that entertained her the most won an artistic side competition. “Gary’s Kids” took the gold on that one!

After the comp was over the participants headed to the Bent Prop to watch all the videos and have a few drinks at the end of the day.
The next 8-way speed event will be during the Holiday Boogie. The exact date will be announced soon.
There are plans in the works for a 4 way FS event with a similar concept. A dive pool is currently being worked on where belly flyers can compete against the free flyers to see who is the fastest! More info to come!
The Patriots' Boogie
Skydive AZ just had our first ever summertime boogie! The 2010 Patriots’ Boogie was created to serve as a fund raiser for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF). The SOWF is a non profit organization that raises money to provide college educations to the surviving children of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel killed in combat or training.
The two day event ran On July 3-4th.
We raised several thousand dollars in support of the SOWF through matching funds from registration and raffle proceeds.
One of the boogie highlights was a very entertaining Karaoke contest!!!! Over a dozen people sang their hearts out. Participants had to perform a patriotic song. Some performers were truly talented others were----well, fun to laugh at! Tandem Master Joe Giampietro won the contest! He received 15 minutes of tunnel time for his victory.

We hope to see this event grow over the years! It was a great way to spend our independence day and a great way to raise money for a terrific foundation!
Barbara Ybarra -- 15 Years!!!!

On May 26th, 2010 Skydive Arizona’s manifest guru, Barbara Ybarra, celebrated 15 years of hard work and dedication to Skydive Arizona. Ybarra is loved by all Skydive Arizona staff, management and customers
The Hill family (DZ owners) organized a beautiful surprise party and gifts for Barb. She was completely surprised and overwhelmed with the love people showed for her.

Ybarra------WE LOVE YOU!
